Getting started
Cleaning up your photo library takes three simple steps:
- Scan — open Smart Cleanup and allow access to your Photos. The app scans your library on your device and groups duplicates, similar shots, and screenshots.
- Review — browse the suggested groups. Smart Cleanup highlights the best photo in each set, and you decide what to keep.
- Delete — confirm your selection to remove the clutter. Nothing is ever deleted without your approval.
Common questions
Why can't the app see my photos?
Smart Cleanup needs permission to access your photo library. If you previously declined, go to Settings → Smart Cleanup → Photos and choose Full Access, then reopen the app.
Where do deleted photos go?
Deleted items are moved to the Recently Deleted album in the Photos app, where they stay for 30 days. To free the space right away, open Photos → Recently Deleted and empty the album.
Will I lose photos I want to keep?
No. Smart Cleanup only removes what you select and confirm. We recommend reviewing each group before deleting, and keeping a backup (such as iCloud Photos) of anything important.
The scan is taking a while — is that normal?
Scan time depends on how many photos and videos you have. Large libraries take a little longer on the first scan. Keep the app open and your iPhone unlocked for the fastest results.
Subscriptions & billing
Smart Cleanup is free to download. Optional subscriptions are handled securely through the Apple App Store. To manage or cancel a subscription, open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on your iPhone. Refunds are handled by Apple according to their policies.
Your privacy
